Today is Jayanti of Sant Kabir, the much-loved Bhakti poet. The idea of Bhakti, intense devotion to God, is ancient. Isha Upanishad and the Gita praise Bhakti. Bhakti Poetry perhaps originated in the Tamil region in 6th century CE and spread across India. A Sanskrit verse says, “Bhakti took birth in Dravida, ripened in Karnataka, came to womanhood in Maharashtra, grew crone-like in Gujarat, reaching Vrindavan she reemerged as a nubile young woman.” In this 12 question quiz, we learn about the Bhakti saints of our land. Andrew Schelling’s fine anthology of Bhakti poetry is the base of this quiz. Five lucky quizzers will receive Bhagavad Gita for Millennials by Bibek Debroy as a gift.
